Abstract

The prevalence of cardiovascular disease (CVD) has increased worldwide in men and women and is independently related to traditional cardiovascular (CV) risk factors (RF). Differences between the sexes in terms of CVD epidemiology, pathophysiology and control are due to differences in sex chromosome gene expression and subsequent differences in sex hormones. In a sample of 2,475 adult patients, selected in cardiology offices, the frequency of traditional cardiovascular risk factors (RF) was investigated according to sex and age. There is a high frequency of traditional Risk Factors balanced between men and women in the age group between 40 and 60 years old, with the exception of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus, generating CVD more prevalently in men.
