Abstract
Pollution is one of the biggest problems in the Brazilian coastal zone. The most commonly found waste is plastic derivatives, such as global spheres called polyethylene. Plastic has become something useful to the Brazilian population due to its durability, and its consumption is increasing more and more, with this the need for recycling has arisen, generating polyethylene sold in ports, as a result of which, incorrect disposal and leakage of cargo in the marine environment cause devaluation of urban beaches, economic problems, population health and marine biodiversity. The city of Santos has a port with a high level of commercialization, which leads the current study to evaluate the negative impact that this general port has on the city's beaches. The objective of the research is to carry out a practical class with undergraduate Biological Sciences students at Unisanta in order to awaken practical and theoretical knowledge about marine pollution caused by polyethylene.
