Abstract
This study presents the characterization of the Baixada Santista environment through the analysis of the spontaneous media research regarding environmental issues between January 2005 and September 2012. The metropolitan region of Baixada Santista (RMBS) is described following the bibliographic socioeconomic and historic characterization of its environmental impacts, through the quantitative research involving spontaneous media on the Jornal A Tribuna and TV Tribuna , between 2005 and 2012. The results suggested an unprecedented economic growth in the number of reports, considering the last seven years. During this period there has been broadcasted 382 TV reports about environment, characterized as spontaneous media, among those: the generic reports about the environment (220); recycling (51); pollution (48); “Onda Limpa” (20); deforestation (18); beach trash clearing (18); “The XXI Agenda” (5); ecology (1). On the other side, on the written press, the number and distribution of topics indicate the inexistence of a media policy for the environment in the RMBS, as well as a low correlation with the environmental accidents that happened within the period.
