Abstract

The SPF herbarium collection constitutes the basis of much of the research performed at the Botany Department from IB-USP. The SPF Herbarium collection has gone through expansions and continuous improvements over the last three decades, becoming one of the most important herbaria in the country, housing more than 210,000 specimens and 900 nomenclatural types, especially of plants from the Espinhaço Range and from Central Brazil mountains. The collection is curated complying with global reference museological standards and is regularly studied by Brazilian and foreign experts.
