Abstract
The VIC Herbarium was founded in 1930 by the Mexico-American Botanist Ynes Mexia. The collection consist of 51,000 specimens and 120 typus material from different groups of fungi and plants, coming from diverse ecosystems of Minas Gerais State: “caatinga”, “campos rupestres”, “cerrado” and seasonal and rainforests included in Atlantic Forest. It is the third collection in the Minas Gerais, in number of specimens, but has historical and scientific value. Some famous botanists deposited part of their collections in the VIC as Agnes Chase, Howard S. Irwin and J.G. Kuhlmann. The most representative families in the collection are Leguminosae, with 6,715 specimens, Asteraceae, with 3,292 and Gramineae with 1,152. Of the total collection, 21,000 specimens are available on line.
