Abstract

The HPUC-MG Herbarium was inaugurated at the Scientific Natural Museum of Pontifícia Universidade Católica Minas Gerais in March 2nd , 2009. It accomplishes 5.119 specimens registered on-line through speciesLink. Among them, angiosperms and bryophytes may be emphasized as the main taxonomic groups which contribute with the biggest number of samples, 3802 and 765, respectively. Moreover, 193 specimens of liquenized fungi; 234 specimens of ferns; 44 samples in the wood collection and 82 specimens of fruits have also been catalogued. The main goals of HPUC-MG Herbarium are: identification; assembly; registration, maintenance, specimens exchange with other educational institutions; conduction of botany studies based on three important pillars - education, research and community. Thereby, the herbarium is always working towards the protection of the historical scientific and cultural patrimony of the country.
