Abstract
Nowadays, the Lages Herbarium of the Universidade do Estado de Santa Catarina (LUSC) has about 8,000 specimens of vascular plants and holds samples of plants from the region of South Catarinense Plateau and other regions of Brazil. The collection, since June 1st, 2011 integrates officially the list of sectors with purposes of teaching, research and extension of the Center of Agro-veterinary Sciences of the University of Santa Catarina State, being the only collection of the institution recorded on data bases, such as Index Herbariorum, Species Link and Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF). The actual records are available on line, and it is expected that all the collection be digitalized and/or photographed within the next two years. The collection integrates collectings performed in the region of Catarinense Ridge in areas of Mixed Ombrophylous Forest, Fields and humid areas which represent about 45% of the total of specimens of the collection. The LUSC staff has worked to meet the demands of teaching, research and extension of the own institution and counterpart institutions.
