Abstract
The Herbarium do Vale do Taquari (HVAT) was established in 1995, it is part of the Natural Science Museum of UNIVATES, it is located in the Taquary Valley, in the central area of Rio Grande do Sul. The herbarium is comprised within the Atlantic Forest Biome and the Deciduous Seasonal Forest (DSF). The biggest portion of samples kept in the Herbarium are prevenient from the Atlantic Forest Biome and from the DSF. The HVAT has about 5.000 dried plants distributed in about 170 families of tracheophytes, 780 genera and 1.750 species, organized according to the APG III. The more representative number of samples belong to the families Orchidaceae, Asteraceae and Poaceae. All the collection is digitized and accessible via speciesLink and Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF). At the moment a great effort is been made to increase the collection, to adequately preserve the samples, well as to make available online data of the regional and threatened species.
