HERBARY OF THE UNIVERSITY OF CAXIAS DO SUL, RIO GRANDE DO SUL (HUCS) Felipe Gonzatti

Abstract

The University of Caxias do Sul Herbarium (HUCS) represents the Araucaria forest and the northeast grassland vegetation of the state of Rio Grande do Sul. It presents more than 43.000 dried specimens, which includes 50 typus materials and two historical collections. The current sampling efforts are to characterize the local and coastal vegetation. Currently, 58% of the specimens are already in Brahms software. Giving, exchanging and loaning practices are constantly conducted in order to increase and update the collection. Research and environmental education projects with schools and communities are within the activities developed by the Herbarium staff.
