Abstract

The Herbarium UNOP is located at Cascavel City, Western Parana, Brazil. It is located in an area with little known flora and close to relevant forest fragments like the Parque Nacional do Iguaçu, Parque Estadual do Rio Guarani, Parque Estadual da Cabeça do Cachorro e RPPN Fazenda Santa Maria. The UNOP Herbarium was organized in 1996 by Dr. Bartolomeu Tavares, diatoms specialist, and currently it is coordinated by Dr. Lívia Godinho Temponi and has two specific collections, organized by specialists, Dr. Norma Catarina Bueno (UNOP-Algae) and Dr. Lívia Godinho Temponi (UNOP). The UNOP Herbarium had its regulations approved by the Universidade Estadual do Oeste do Paraná (UNIOESTE) in 2009 and its collection of plants consists mainly of samples of regional plants, as well as plant donation samples and partnerships in projects with samplings of other Brazil and other countries. The UNOP Herbarium is linked to Rede Brasileira de Herbários and the computerized data are available at speciesLink. The UNOP collection is composed of approximately 11,000 samples and the most representative groups are: Chlorophyta (1.565), Rubiaceae (690), Charophyta (612), Fabaceae (467), Araceae (461), Asteraceae (291), Myrtaceae (184), Poaceae (121) e Cyperaceae (71).
