Abstract

The Herbarium IPA - Dárdano de Andrade Lima is the oldest and complete source of information on the flora of semi-arid region of Brazil, besides it have several collections of plants of too many Brazilian ecosystems and countless vegetable specimens of different regions of the world. The Herbarium IPA has about 91.000 dried plants, 320 typus and more than 200.000 duplicates for exchange and studies, disposing of the biggest Caatinga collection in the country. One of it principal objectives is to rescue and the knowledge of the flora of Pernambuco, in special of the Northeast. The collection is composed by approximately 520 families, including 4.300 fungi. Among the most representative botanical families in number of species, the Leguminosae is with 2.072 samples and the Asteraceae with 851. Of the total of his collection, 74.081 specimens are available online.
