Abstract

The herbarium Rosa Mochel (SLUI), of Universidade Estadual do Maranhão, currently has about 5,500 records of botanical material, especially dried specimens, predominantly the angiosperms with 117 families represented. The collection also includes 50 ferns, 26 bryophytes, 24 macroscopic algae, and two gymnosperms a wood collection (with 174 copies), one fruit collection (50 individuals), a seeds collection (35 samples) and a small collection of macroscopic fungi (10 samples). The collections mainly represent the state: Amazon Forest; Cerrado; Riparian forests and coastal vegetation of São Luís Island. The samples come from, mostly, the State of Maranhão (70%), although there are in the collection representing the flora of 15 states of Brazil. About 80% of the collection is computerized and available online, and it is expected that the entire collection will be computerized in a year, also starting the collection of the scanning process and the registry in Index Herbarium
