Abstract
The INPA herbarium, situated in the National Amazon Research Institute in Manaus, is the largest in Amazonia with about 270,000 specimens of vascular plants and fungi, mostly from Amazonia and the other Brazilian Amazon states. The collection has been data-based and 100% photographed, with a total of ca. 550.000 images of the exsiccates and also of their labels. The collection contains several vouchers for several important projects including Projeto Flora Amazônia (PFA), Projeto Dinâmica Biológica de Fragmentos Florestais (PDBFF) and Projeto Flora da Reserva Ducke (PFRD). The type collection includes ca. 950 holotypes and isotypes and ca. 600 paratypes. The herbarium has a very active program of loans and exchanges, with approximately 90,000 duplicates currently available for exchange.
