HERBARY OF THE IBGE ECOLOGICAL RESERVE, FEDERAL DISTRICT (IBGE) Marina de Lourdes Fonseca, Luciano de Lima Guimarães

Abstract

The IBGE’s Ecological Reserve herbarium, its collections, physical structure and work dynamics are presented here, as well as its importance representing the Brazilian savanna. The IBGE herbarium has currently 79,000 records, mainly collected at the Brazilian savanna regions, featuring a great collection of grasses and 227 type specimens. The digitization process is in progress with 75% already complete; data should be available online in 2016. The exchange with national and international institutions has enriched the IBGE herbarium in number of specimens and taxonomic identifications. Until 2015 our staff and collaborators has identified close to 39,000 plant specimens.
