Abstract
The National Museum Herbarium was the first Brazilian herbarium, created in 1831 by Riedel. It has several historical collections in its collection, one of the most relevant being that of the French landscaper Auguste François Marie Glaziou who came to Brazil in 1858. Throughout the second reign and the first years of the Republic, he was entrusted with various management positions in Rio of January. This naturalist showed great interest in Brazilian flora and scientific research. His collection, known as Plants of Central Brazil, comprises 22,770 specimens, deposited, most of them in the Herbarium of the Muséum national d'Histoire naturelle, in Paris and in that of the National Museum, in Rio de Janeiro. The botanical material collected by Glaziou, placed in these two herbaria, are computerized, digitized and made available on the SpeciesLink network.
