Abstract

Collections of identified wood with collection data available are of great importance for the study of plant diversity in addition to serving as reference material for wood identification. This work presents an overview of Brazilian wood libraries approximately 50 years after the first actions for the organization, standardization and regulation of wood libraries around the world. Data were collected and a comparative analysis was carried out between information from Brazilian collections and the main collections in the world. In 50 years, Brazil went from four collections to 37. Comparing the number of samples in Brazilian collections with the largest collections in the world, we can conclude that despite the increase in the number of samples in national collections, much still needs to be done to maintain and increase the representation of Brazilian botanical diversity in wood libraries
