Abstract

Terminalia catappa Linn (Combretaceae ) is a species indigenous to the East Indies and Oceania, and commonly used for afforestation throughout the Brazilian coast . Popularlyknown as Amendoeira, Amendoeira-da-Praia, Amendoeira-da-Índia, Cuca, Guarda-Sol, Castanheira da Índia, Castanhola e Chapéu-de-Sol. Previous studies have reported that the leaves of T. catappa have antiulcer activity with phenolic compounds , especially gallic acid as the main responsible for such therapeutic activity . This study aimed to develop extraction process and phytochemical evaluation of leaves have fallen from the trees T. catappa. These samples were collected on the beachfront in Santos and subsequently underwent the extraction process , each of the fractions analyzed by thin layer chromatography (TLC) . The results show that the fraction of Ethyl Acetate (AcOH ) shows the presence of Gallic Acid . Such data are considered as of great importance, since such daily fallen leaves are all shaped as discarded waste. With such data, it has been proposed as the use of these leaves for further study and may in future serve as treatment antiulcerogenic through Complementary and Alternative Medicine in the National Health System ( SUS ) .
