Abstract

Knowledge about species composition is the basis for understanding processes that affect the balance of communities or ecosystems. The present study aimed to identify the species of decapod crustaceans on the RDS Barra do Una beach. Ten hauls were carried out in the surf zone, three hauls in the area adjacent to the mouth (North) and two in the mouth of the Una river estuary in the periods day and night. 268 specimens of decapod crustaceans were collected, belonging to three families and six species, with Arenaeus cribrarius being the most abundant, occurring preferentially in places with higher salinities and the hermit crab Pagurus criniticornis, sampled only at night. New studies with greater sampling effort must be carried out at the site, in order to contribute to the ecological knowledge of decapod crustaceans that inhabit surf zones.
