Abstract
The surf zone extends from the coastline to the wave breaking area, being classified as a dynamic environment, receiving the action of waves, tides and currents, serving as a feeding, reproduction and growth area for juveniles of various species. The objective of the work was to evaluate the distribution, richness and abundance of fish fauna in the surf zone of RDS Barra do Una. The specimens were collected with a pickaxe net, bagged, kept in thermal boxes with ice, frozen and taken to the laboratory, where they were identified to the lowest possible taxonomic level. Ten species belonging to six families and four orders were collected, with Trachinotus carolinus being the most abundant in the study. The rarefaction curves show that many species can still be found in the region, inferring that new studies with greater sampling effort can be carried out, in order to contribute to the ecological knowledge of fish that inhabit surf zones.
