Abstract

The ichthyofauna of streams inserted in the Atlantic Forest is little known due to the small size of the species and their cryptic habits. The objective of the present study was to identify the ichthyofauna of four streams of the Barra do Una Sustainable Development Reserve – Peruíbe – SP and analyze some aspects of the population structure of Phalloceros cf. harpagos. The fish were captured using hand nets, sieve and plastic pits, fixed in 10% formalin and preserved in 70% alcohol. In the laboratory they were identified, measured and separated according to sex. 162 fish belonging to three species were captured (Poecilia cf. vivipara, Phalloceros cf. harpagos and Atlantirivulus cf. santensis). The sex ratio of Phalloceros cf. harpagos was 4:1 and the parameters estimated by the weight-length relationship were a = 4.97 and b = 3.18. Body condition was not significantly different between sex and streams sampled. Knowledge of the ichthyofauna in tropical streams can provide support for future studies on the conservation and preservation of biological communities.
