Abstract

This article deals with solid waste management practices and actions aimed at environmental education in the context of civil construction in a sample of works carried out in the municipality of Santos – SP, Metropolitan Region of Baixada Santista. An intervention was carried out at the site to explain the importance of recycling solid waste to gradually increase the reuse of solid waste within the site, minimizing production costs and the impact of its disposal on the environment. It was possible to verify that the construction companies visited have the vast majority of mid-level professionals and technicians who do not have great decision-making power in carrying out the works, due to little knowledge about solid waste recycling, but have some idea about development sustainable as necessary for the preservation of natural resources. This public is unaware of actions aimed at this, nor are they aware of the need for the work to operate in line with the guidelines of the Municipal Solid Waste Management Plan to reduce environmental impacts and the production of garbage and debris. Only higher education professionals, mainly the engineers responsible for the works, have knowledge and information about environmental education within construction by managing the final destination of solid waste, where a small portion ends up being reused in the work and the majority is intended for waste collection companies that dump it in the Municipal Sanitary Landfill of Santos in Sítio das Neves and Alemoa.
