Abstract
The hydrodynamics of the Una do Prelado river was changed with the opening of the "Canal Furado", carried out in 1958. The objective of this study was precisely to evaluate the impacts generated by the construction of this shortcut on the Ameixal island in the region and to analyze the recent history of erosion and deposition of sediments transported by the Una River. Sampling stations were distributed throughout the island and its surroundings, where hydrographic data were collected for reading environmental information. Among the 18 sampling stations, there was a decrease in depth and salinity, and an increase in temperature at the stations north of Ameixal Ilha when compared to the main channel of the Una River. This work revealed an indication that there is a process of structural change in the geometry of the Una River, as well as the more complex mangrove region.
