Abstract
Aiming to contribute to the knowledge of the floristic composition of the Atlantic Forest, a floristic survey of woody species in the understory (lower stratum) of a section located in the Iporanga Loteamento, in Serra do Guararu, municipality of Guarujá, São Paulo, was carried out. The aim of the work was to list the woody species of phanerogams present in the lower stratum of the forest, characterize the physiognomy of the understory in terms of life forms and create an identification key for the species. For this, usual collection and herborization techniques were used; identification was made using specific bibliography, consultations with specialists and comparisons with herbarium exsiccates. 113 individuals were sampled, 34 species distributed in 20 families, with the greatest specific richness being Myrtaceae (five spp.), Rubiaceae (four spp.), Arecaceae (four spp.) and Melastomataceae (three spp.).
