Abstract

Studies in Urban Ecology seek to understand the causes and effects of environmental changes and their relationship with human interference. This work presents a methodology that uses tools from Landscape Ecology for the ecological study of urbanized areas and demonstrates its practical application in the analysis of natural disasters and anthropogenic actions resulting from the occupation of Monte Serrat in Santos – SP over a timeline. The proposal is that the observation is initially made through photographs and technological resources for analyzing remote sensing images, through the use of Geographic Information Systems (GIS). From there, field observations are carried out with the aim of closely analyzing the changes that have occurred at the study site, developing a critical perception of human actions in the urban environment.
