Abstract

Some external factors, such as high salinity, winds, very strong incidences of light and heat or competition for resources available in a given region, can be factors that cause stress in plants. Therefore, the objective of the work was to compare restinga areas on two beaches located in the Sustainable Development Region of Barra do Una, in the city of Peruíbe, state of São Paulo. Two similar areas were chosen, with each area being delimited into plots of 1m x10m and visually assigned the HI (Herbivory Index) of each leaf according to categories proposed by the method: 0 - 0%, 1 - 0.1-6% , 2 - 6.1-12%, 3 - 12.1-25%, 4 - 25.1-50% and 5 - > 50%. Comparing the two regions, it can be seen that the quantity of healthy leaves is greater in Praia da Barra do Una than in Praia do Caramborê. On the other hand, those who live on Praia do Caramborê, close to the rocky shore that is a source of nutrients, invest little in defense and therefore have a higher HI index, in addition, they are more unprotected.
