Abstract
Rivers have been continually disturbed. Anthropogenic actions compromise its waters and their support, both for humans and aquatic life. Rio dos Bugres, which is bordered by the largest stilt favela in Brazil, is another one of these. The present study aims to verify the environmental quality of the Rio dos Bugres, using the parameters established by the National Environmental Council (CONAMA). The results suggest sewage contamination. Furthermore, Sambaiatuba, a deactivated garbage disposal area, also harms the quality of the river.
