Abstract
Since its creation in 2006, the SPVR Herbarium, located in the city of Registro, SP, has worked with university extension and democratization of scientific knowledge. The Vale do Ribeira region, where it is located, is one of the largest remnants of the Atlantic Forest in Brazil and the largest in the State of São Paulo. Working in partnership with the Education Directorates of the Miracatu and Registro Regions, it held refresher courses in Botany and Environmental Education for public school teachers, with theoretical, practical, dynamic classes and games. It also developed two traveling exhibition projects in 14 municipalities covered by the two Education Directorates. The role of the SPVR Herbarium in scientific dissemination has proven to be of great importance in the socioeconomic reality of Vale do Ribeira, managing to cover a large part of the territory and interacting with different audiences, thus exercising its role in democratizing knowledge and combating botanical blindness in one of the regions best preserved Atlantic Forest in the country.
