Abstract

This extension action reports on an initiative of the LUSC Herbarium, at the Center for Agroveterinary Sciences/UDESC – CAV/UDESC Lages (SC), which has been developed since 2010. The objective has been to publicize the importance of Botany Teaching for external community of public and/or private institutions. Didactic activities on the teaching of botany were carried out in Municipal, State institutions and Federal Institutes; in the Botany Laboratory and the LUSC Herbarium at CAV/UDESC and extension courses were also offered to the general public. As teaching resources, a thematic collection made up of exsiccates was organized for use in exhibitions and for practical classes on species recognition. And, later, didactic banners were created, printed on canvas, with concepts and images of vegetative and reproductive structures of native plants (roots, stems, leaves, flowers, inflorescences, fruits and seeds) of economic interest, occurring in the Planalto Sul Catarinense region. , in addition to creating a booklet of activities, for use in workshops and classrooms. The results obtained from the herbarium's actions expanded to the communities made it possible to organize a collection of exsiccates and didactic banners composed of 15 thematic groups. This seven-year extension action directly reached an audience of around 2200 students, from 25 educational institutions, in addition to 210 participants in extension courses, offered to the community. The teaching resources facilitated the teaching-learning process where the student was able to construct concepts and interact with practical activities in the area of ​​botany.
