The Extension in the Herbarium Prof. Jorge Pedro Pereira Carauta (HUNI) from the Federal University of the State of Rio de Janeiro Sandra Zorat Cordeiro, Camila Maistro Patreze, Joel Campos de Paula

Abstract

The Herbarium Prof. Jorge Pedro Pereira Carauta (HUNI) has been developing, after three years of revitalization, extension projects with the aim of publicizing the importance of herbaria in the knowledge and preservation of vegetation. In its projects, HUNI carries out advisory, consultancy and artistic production activities, mentoring interns, presenting work at scientific events, interviews and preparing educational material. It also collaborates with the Extension Program “Jardim Didactic e Evolutivo da UNIRIO” by assembling exhibits that are made available to visitors, including children with visual impairments, on monitored visits. The dissemination of these actions increases the interest of the UNIRIO community in the herbarium, making HUNI a strategic point in extension policy inside and outside the university.
