Botany on the weekend: report on extension activities at the UFAL Natural History Museum Letícia Ribes de Lima, Carlos Jorge da Silva Correia

Abstract

In this article we reflect on the importance of popularizing scientific knowledge, in general, and knowledge related to Botany, in particular, based on some extension actions promoted and developed by the Herbarium Professor “Honório Monteiro” (MUFAL), from the Botany Sector from the Natural History Museum of the Federal University of Alagoas (MHN-UFAL). In methodological terms, an exhibition and two workshops were held in the context of a program entitled “Weekend at the Museum” whose main purpose was the scientific dissemination of botanical knowledge. Among the results obtained, there are significant levels of approval from participants in relation to the development of activities, which allows us to affirm that Botany can be better presented to the lay public using playful approaches.
