Abstract
Herbariums are important documentation centers, especially in the Amazon, as they represent a set of data for the scientific study of plant diversity in this region. In 2011, the MFS herbarium was created at the State University of Pará (UEPA), which has joined efforts in cataloging plants together with other herbaria in the state of Pará. This collection shares with society data on the results of studies and research projects in environmental sciences. Extension actions with the MFS are organized in exhibitions that showcase the collection, in addition to training with workshops given to students, researchers and other professionals, who deal with the management of botanical collections. Having a website and a social media page, the MFS publishes content about the herbarium and its areas of knowledge online. Extension actions are tools for raising social awareness regarding environmental issues.
