Abstract

The Herbarium is an important instrument for awakening interest in studies related to biodiversity and nature conservation, as it houses collections of preserved plant species and plays a fundamental role in carrying out biodiversity inventories, therefore, the Ilha Solteira Herbarium project was proposed. (HISA) at school: awakening to the conservation of regional flora, with the aim of publicizing the importance of herbaria and awakening curiosity about Natural Sciences and the conservation of flora diversity. The Herbarium of the Faculty of Engineering of Ilha Solteira, which belongs to the Universidade Estadual Paulista “Júlio de Mesquita Filho” (UNESP), was created in 1990, and was initially created to serve teaching activities and incorporate materials collected in areas of native vegetation of the Teaching, Research and Extension Farm (FEPE) of the aforementioned University. During the 2016 academic period, several activities related to the theme of biological collections were carried out, with a focus on herbarium collections, with the Technical Course in the Environment at the State Technical School (ETEC) of Ilha Solteira. The activities involved studies on the Herbarium and botanical collections and practical classes, such as collecting and herborizing the material, making exsiccates and a leaflet with the identification and information of the species collected, and in the end it was possible to hold an exhibition at ETEC of the exsiccates made by the students. According to the testimonies of students and teachers, we concluded that they had a new perception about Botany and that they will probably care about and respect nature, conserving plants and their habitat, while the team can learn a little more and understand how Botany can be worked on with students and teachers.
