Abstract
Herbaria store important botanical collections for the study of biodiversity, and are considered a significant teaching tool for building knowledge in this area. The Dr. Ronaldo Wasum Herbarium at the State University of Rio Grande do Sul – North Coast (HERW), located in Osório, RS, has an important role in the training of students and teachers. Every six months, students from the Pedagogy Course carry out technical visits and practical classes at the herbarium. As a result, students are motivated to learn about and observe plants in detail and, in this way, become interested in this topic. After these experiences in the herbarium, it was found that around 50% of the class, when preparing learning activities and mandatory curricular internships, choose topics related to Botany. In view of this satisfactory result, the aim is to maintain this activity with students on the Pedagogy course and also to innovate with the creation of a didactic herbarium, so that students and teachers can use it in the classroom.
