Abstract

Invertebrates are classified by the absence of vertebrae and include around 97% of all beings in the animal kingdom, with several branches, including the phylum Mollusca. The identification of molluscs belonging to the Bivalve and Gastropod Classes, together with the recognition of species with commercial uses, opens up opportunities for the recognition of their values and future related research. The objective is to collect and catalog invertebrates from the Phylum Mollusca, with an emphasis on the Bivalve and Gastropoda Classes, on the north coast of São Paulo, in the city of Caraguatatuba. Between December 2016 and December 2017, ten field trips were carried out, where nine beaches on the North Coast of São Paulo and one on the tributary of the Thingá River, in Caraguatatuba, were visited. To carry out the collection, plastic bags were used to store the samples and tweezers were used to check the organisms inside the shells. All collected material was identified with specialized bibliography. In total, 236 specimens were collected, belonging to 53 specimens (31 Bivalves and 22 Gastropods). It is possible to note the large percentage of species in the region, mainly bivalves, where mystic farming activities are already carried out, generating income for the local population.
