Abstract

The present study presents a list of birds and mammals observed on a rural property, in the faxina region, municipality of Viamão – RS. The observations were carried out from 2004 to the summer of 2018. A total of 76 species were recorded in this study, including bird and mammal species, for the investigated region. Of this total of species, 14 taxa were mammals represented by an equal number of families; and 62 taxa were birds distributed in 31 families. For Mammalia, there was no quantitative highlight for any family, with exactly one species being recorded for each taxon. In Birds, on the other hand, the most representative family was Thraupidae Cabanis, 1847 with nine species, followed by Tyrannidae Vigors, 1825 and Columbidae Leach, 1820, each with four species. The data obtained particularly points to the need to better study and understand the biogeographical similarity coefficient obtained between the region of the present study and the avifauna data from Chico Mendes Park in Porto Alegre.
