Quali-quantitative tree and shrub inventory of the Jardim da Fundação Pinacoteca Benedito Calixto – Santos – SP. Sandra Regina Pardini Pivelli

Abstract

The house of the Pinacoteca was built around 1908 on a plot of 6,600 m². In 1921 the property acquired the current characteristics. In the outside was made a tennis court, accommodation for servants, classroom, orchard, fountain, pergolas and a large mall with Jambolões. The house is the last one of the Santista waterfront, which maintains the characteristics of the time of the coffee barons and was registered by the Municipal Council of Defense of the Cultural Heritage of Santos - CONDEPASA in 2012. During the month of May of 2018, the trees and shrubs of the Garden of the Pinacoteca Benedito Calixto Foundation were inventoried in a quantitative and qualitative method, aiming to identify the richness and abundance of the plant community throughout its extension. A total of 60 species were counted, totaling about 100 individuals belonging to 31 families. Arecaceae (n = 10), Myrtaceae (n = 8) and Fabaceae (n = 4) were the most numerous, and Iucas Yucca sp. (n = 20), Caryota urens Jacq. (n = 16), the Livistona chinensis R.Br (n = 14) and the Caesalpinia leiostachya (Benth.) Ducke (n = 10) were the most representative. The species are mostly exotic (n = 39), which value the aesthetic function of the garden. However, the planting of regional natives is already present as the Aroeira Schinus terebinthifolius Raddi and the Araçá Psidium cattleyanum Sabine and the Assa-peixe Vernonia polysphaera Baker. As of August 25, 2017, private areas have also been incorporated into the complementary law 973 that deals with the management of arboreal vegetation in the municipality. This inventory is an important planning tool for the city's tree management, since it allows the knowledge of the specimens existing in particular areas relevant to the maintenance of the urban forest.
