Abstract
One of the ways to guarantee water quality is basic sanitation. The quality control of beaches in the State of São Paulo is monitored by the Environmental Company of the State of São Paulo – CETESB, which follows Conama Resolution No. 274/2000. This study takes place in São Vicente, which is the first city founded by the Portuguese in Brazil, on January 22, 1532, by Martim Afonso de Sousa. Being a municipality in the Serra do Mar State Park. In order to improve basic sanitation on the coast of São Paulo, the first channels were designed, as with the expansion of the port of Santos there was a population increase accompanied by an increase in domestic effluents, solid waste and water consumption, providing favorable conditions for the emergence of infectious diseases. Learning to protect and care means realizing that you are inserted in the environmental context and becoming aware of your perception. In view of the above, this study aimed to understand the ecological and sanitary perceptions of the school community of a state school related to Gonzaguinha beach in the municipality of São Vicente, coastal São Paulo, and whether they represent the environmental reality of this ecosystem. Of those interviewed, 95% consider that the canals that pass through the city and flow into the beaches have an influence on the quality of the water on the beaches. Most also consider the water quality to be poor. Only 11% can say what bathing is.
