Abstract

The Hydrodynamic Research Center of the Faculty of Engineering of the Santa Cecília University has been carrying out services and research in the area of numerical modeling for 20 years, with special emphasis on the production of knowledge and support for stakeholders working in the Baixada Santista region. Currently, operating a system of high-resolution models in operational mode, which includes a set of software, including Mohid and the AquaSafe platform, with partnerships and information exchange between different government agencies, research institutions and companies, which in return make use of data from hydrodynamic and water quality predictions that the system offers. Furthermore, the platform implemented with the support of CBH-BS and FEHIDRO, is configured to issue daily bulletins and alerts on the hydrodynamic and environmental conditions of the Santos – São Vicente Estuary, which include forecasts of sea level, maritime agitation, currents and water quality at different points, making it possible to predict up to 5 days in advance the occurrence of storm surges and critical events for large navigation, the microbiological quality of coastal and inland waters, among others. In addition, two other projects are underway to install three fluviometric and pluviometric stations in this river basin with the support of FEHIDRO. In this way, this work stands out for the implementation of a complex infrastructure in operation, for its reliability assessed continuously since 2015, for the customization of the system to users' needs and for the different forms of interaction with local managers. The daily dissemination of bulletins and continuous access to the information system has allowed, in recent years, support for municipal Civil Defenses in the occurrence of floods, floods and storm surge events, support in the operation and maintenance of macro-drainage networks, in maneuvering of ships with draft limitations in the port area, in emergencies, among other situations where this environmental information is important for decision making.
