Atlantic Forest, natural water reservoir: awakening a sense of belonging to the planet - Guarujá/SP Lucia Helena da Silva

Abstract
The detachment demonstrated by the population towards urban afforestation is identified daily in the most diverse manifestations of the population at the Department of the Environment. Daily requests for the removal of trees are registered with justifications that prioritize the use of urban spaces for vehicles (expansion of garages), the responsibility for maintaining spaces (reducing daily sweeping of leaves and cleaning of swimming pools), to the detriment of the environmental quality provided by arboreal individuals. With several projects, the aim is to raise awareness among the community of the need and importance of having a different perspective on urban afforestation and to enable, through experience and co-management, to awaken a sense of belonging to public space as an active citizen in the social and environmental context where the Atlantic Forest is present.
