Abstract
Citizenship and the Environment: Sides of the Same Coin - The full exercise of citizenship and engagement in environmental struggles constitute a binomial that cannot be dissociated. Environmental aggressions are a result of the hegemony of the interests of large economic corporations that override the right to a healthy environment and the prevalence of public interest. Sometimes such attacks are also consequences of the compromise of certain segments of the media and the lack of knowledge on the part of the population about the negative developments that these attacks impact and cause to the quality of life of all social segments, especially those segments penalized by situations of social injustice, discrimination, poverty, social vulnerability. Given this situation, the multiple actions of Civil Society Entities that do not accept these dictates, take a contrary position and act in a permanent and systematic way to reverse this situation of aggression are of great relevance. In this context, the praxis of Awareness for Citizenship, also known as the Citizenship Forum of Santos, is inserted, through activities developed in partnerships with Universities, Associations and Social Movements, both in the field of Environmental Education and in other propositional actions aimed at promote the Defense and Protection of the Environment in Santos and other cities that make up the Metropolitan Region of Baixada Santista.
