The work of the Mantas do Brasil Project and the interaction between the species Mobula birostris and fishing gear on the Brazilian coast Luiza Pereira Gomes, Carlo Leopoldo B. Francini

Abstract

The “Mantas do Brasil” Project seeks the conservation and scientific research of Manta Ray (Mobula birostris), in addition to promoting environmental education. The project, designed by the non-governmental organization Laje Viva Institute, participates in conservation-related events and carries out environmental education activities for the general public of all age groups and diverse segments of society such as fishermen, divers, teachers and government agencies, in order to transmit all the scientific knowledge and the potential risks for the extinction of the species.
