Abstract

The present study has the objective of researching and analyzing the problems in the free fairs of the city of Santos / SP generated by the inadequate disposal of solid wastes, identifying and analyzing such situations and proposing possible ways to minimize their deleterious effects on man and the environment. The data were collected through the application of the Transversal walk to identify environmental characteristics, survey of types and quantities of solid waste from three city fairs, obtaining the percentage and composition of the solid waste. The monthly waste length and volume of all the 21 fairs in the city and the monthly residue volume / length ratio were calculated for monthly values between 5,6 kg/m e 18,8 kg/m.
