Abstract

The Port of Santos is an estuarine port, located in the municipalities of Santos, Guarujá and Cubatão, in the state of São Paulo. It is the main Brazilian port and the largest port complex in Latin America. At the interface between the port and the city of Santos, due to the influence of urban and port activities, materials were found that point to diferente appropriations of this space, including practices that may interfere in the quality of the local ecosystem. In this study a survey was carried out on three different stretches of the access network to the right bank of the Port of Santos, in the insular area of the municipality of Santos, SP and later characterization of the components present along the railway line, where the residues found were categorized in accordance with NBR10.004 / 2004. Materials of the most diverse characteristics and provenances were observed. In the case of port waste, samples of cargoes were found, such as soybeans, chemical fertilizers and corn and soybean plants. For urban waste, the rubble of civil construction, plastic, religious and other materials related to the consumption of illicit substances played a prominent role. The presence of the items found reinforces the need for attention to aspects related to both public and environment health, as well as the need to adopt and improve public and sectoral policies, as they reveal relevant social
and environmental issues.
