Abstract
The metropolitan region of Porto Alegre, located in the southern region of Brazil, constituting a zone of ecological tension influenced by the Coastal Plain (area of pioneer formations, vegetation with fluvial or lacustrine influence), Semideciduous Seasonal Forest, Deciduous Seasonal Forest, Steppe and Contact Savannah-Steppe. The environmentalist thinking that affects many technicians in afforestation also disqualifies many, as far as aspects of taxonomy of forest essences, in such a way that similar species end up being, unduly identified as one or the other. In this study, we present features that allow an appropriate distinction between Leucaena leucocephala (Lam.) de Vit (Fabaceae) and Parapiptadenia rigida (Benth.) Brenan (Fabaceae).
