Abstract

The relationship between domestic and wild animals and humans increases the likelihood of disease transmission. Zoonoses have an impact on public health, and the need to know the main risk factors involved with humans is extremely important. Clamidiosis is a disease caused by bacterial, Chlamydophila psittaci, which infects wild and domestic birds, domestic mammals and man. The aim of this study was to verify the occurrence of avian clamidiosis in wild parrots and the importance in human health. Thirty-one specimens of amazona aestiva, adults, from seizures occurred in the Southeast regions, were evaluated, and the results revealed that the experimental group was diagnosed negative for clamidiosis on exposure to PCR, however this relationship between man and birds suggests further studies and monitoring effort, since bacterial zoonoses have a high impact on public health and biodiversity conservation
