Abstract

Menippe nodifrons is a crab commonly found on rocky shores in sand reefs, or consolidated substrate. The present study aimed to characterize the aspects of the biology of crab Menippe nodifrons on the rocky shore, from Paranapuã beach, São Vicente, SP. Samples were collected manually from August 1999 to July 2000. At the Laboratory was measured the carapace width and identified sex. A total of 951 individuals were caught, being 524 in sand reefs and 427 in the bedrock. The differences in the sizes of crabs were observed according to the place where the sand reefs were found smaller sized animals, already the largest in the consolidated substrate.
