Abstract
Urbanization modifies the physical and biotic structure of the habitat, which can affect several ecological processes involving fauna and flora. The aim of this study was to identify the species of Psittaciformes occurring in the environment of Porto Alegre, RS, as well as to record their possible adaptability to this environment. Observations and records were carried out from June 2003 to July 2020, by sighting. The occurrence of seven species of Psittaciforme was recorded within the urban perimeter of Porto Alegre, namely: Myiopsitta monachus (Boddaert, 1783), Pyrrhura frontalis (Vieillot, 1818), Brotogeris chiriri (Vieillot, 1818), Amazona aestiva Linnaeus, 1758, Amazona pretrei (Temminck, 1830), Melopsittacus undulatus (Shaw, 1805), all from the Psittacidae family, and Nymphicus hollandicus (Kerr, 1792), from the Cacatuidae family. Among the species, only Amazona pretrei (Temminck, 1830) is in a vulnerable condition on the IUCN Red List. It is essential to expand ecological studies in urban areas to reconcile human development with the maintenance of biodiversity and support of ecosystem services.
