Abstract

The Engenho São Jorge dos Erasmos Municipal Natural Park (PNMESJE) was created on September 29, 2017 by decree nº 7886. It has an area of ​​51,320.53 m² an dislocated in the mountain massif of São Vicente Island, in Santos, central coast of the State of São Paulo. The present work aimed to qualitatively inventory the birds of the region. The observation started in 2009, systematically for one year and later new species were incorporated in sporadic observations carried out during the courses and meetings destined for this purpose in the area of ​​the Ruins Engenho São Jorge dos Erasmos National Monument, included with in the Park. The vegetation, although secondary, is important for the protection of the local biodiversity, which in terms of avifauna has 89 species, two of which are vulnerable: The Channel-billed Toucan Ramphastos vitellinus and the Black-backed Tanager Tangara peruviana. Ten species on the list are endemic  to  the  Atlantic Forest. Among them, the Slaty-breasted Wood-Rail Aramides saracura, the Gray-headed Toddy-Flycatcher Todirostrum polyocephalum and the Ruby-crowned Tanager Tachyphonus coronatus, can be more easily detected by vocalization than by visualization. The families with the largest number of species were Tyrannidae (n=12) Thraupidae (n=10), and Trochilidae (n=6). The publication of this list is an instrument that can be used in the management of the Municipal Conservation.
