Abstract

The Trindade and Martim Vaz archipelago is located 1,160 km from the continent, at the eastern end of the Vitória-Trindade underwater mountain range. In 1957, the Brazilian Navy permanently established itself in the territory, where it continues to make efforts to occupy and make the Trindade and Martim Vaz archipelago habitable. The territory is currently protected by two conservation units, so good and effective management of the conservation units will only occur through an ongoing partnership between the governance bodies: the Brazilian Navy, SECIRM and ICMBio. The objective of this work is to propose a volunteer program for the Trindade and Martim Vaz archipelago in order to create a communication link for the integrated management of ICMBio Trindade and Martim Vaz with the Brazilian Navy and SECIRM. The proposal for an ICMBio volunteer program is directly related to PROTRINDADE, as it includes the logistics of the expeditions, as well as vacancies at ECIT for volunteers. The volunteer program is expected to provide a permanent communication link for integrated management between ICMBIO and the Brazilian Navy, contributing to compliance with Decree No. 9312/18, assisting in the organization of activities for the conservation of the island, in addition to promoting society's engagement in the conservation of biodiversity through voluntary action and public recognition of this contribution.
