Abstract
Rheumatoid arthritis is a chronic autoimmune pathology of idiopathic etiology, it is only known that it is related to environmental, behavioral factors, lifestyle and eating habits. It is characterized by cartilage wear, which consequently triggers bone erosion and joint deformity. Vitamin D has an important immunomodulatory role on immune system cells, so its deficiency in the body may be associated with a greater risk of developing RA and worsening symptoms. Hypovitaminosis D in elderly individuals is predominant, however, it can occur in any age group and is closely related to metabolic diseases, autoimmune diseases, cardiovascular diseases, and cancer. There is a need for studies related to rheumatoid arthritis to advance, in view of this, the objective of this work is to report the consequence of hypovitaminosis D in the individuals with rheumatoid arthritis. To carry out this work, a bibliographic survey was carried out, with emphasis on works published between 2009 and 2022, using the following databases: National Library Of Medicine and the National Institutes of Health (PUBMED); Scientific Electronic Library Online (SCIELO); Publish or perish software 8.
